80G & 12A Registration

📘 80G & 12A Registration for NGOs in India

Empower Your Cause with Tax Benefits

If you’re running an NGO, Trust, or Section 8 Company in India, getting registered under Sections 12A and 80G of the Income Tax Act is not just a formality—it’s a strategic move. These registrations help you save taxes, build credibility, and attract more donations by offering tax benefits to your donors.

🧾 What is 12A Registration?

Section 12A registration allows NGOs and charitable organizations to claim full exemption on income, provided it’s used for charitable purposes. Without this registration, your NGO’s income is taxable—even if it’s being used for noble causes.

✅ Benefits of 12A:

  • Complete exemption from income tax
  • Essential for getting 80G approval
  • Enhances transparency and donor confidence

💸 What is 80G Registration?

Section 80G registration is what makes your NGO attractive to donors. It allows individuals and organizations who donate to your NGO to claim tax deductions (50% or 100%) on their donated amount.

✅ Benefits of 80G:

  • Donors get tax benefits under Income Tax Act
  • Encourages more contributions
  • Increases trustworthiness of your NGO

📋 Documents Required

  • Registration certificate of the NGO (Trust Deed/MOA/COI)
  • PAN Card of the NGO
  • Address proof of the registered office
  • NOC from landlord (if premises are rented)
  • Last 3 years’ audited financial statements (if available)
  • Activity report or details of ongoing programs
  • Bank statements of the organization

🔗 How to Apply?

  • Log in with NGO’s credentials and authorized person’s DSC
  • Fill Form 10A (for fresh registration)
  • Attach all required documents
  • Submit using DSC or EVC
  • CIT (Exemptions) may request additional info or inspection
  • Upon approval, registration certificate will be issued

📅 Validity and Timeline

  • ⏱ Processing Time: Around 1 to 3 months
  • 📆 Validity: 5 years (renewable)
  • 📝 Renewal: Should be applied for at least 6 months before expiry

💡 Important Update

As per the Finance Act 2020, all existing NGOs had to re-apply under the new compliance regime using Form 10A or 10AB. If your organization hasn’t re-registered, it may lose its tax-exempt status and donor incentives.
